TORY BURCH FALL WINTER 2012 COLLECTION

I am completely inspired and impressed by Tory Burch's Fall 2012 Collection. The collection is reminiscent of Christian Dior's New Look and classic Chanel. The silhouettes are current, feminine and clean with a 1950s twist. I enjoyed seeing these classic looks updated.

In addition to the classic looks, the designer put together a few edgy, provocative looks as well. She added leather leggings, a plastic pencil skirt and finished a couple looks with leather driving gloves! Peplum silhouettes were a knock out trend in this show as well.

Tory Burch delivered well on the accessories too. Handbags and shoes were gorgeous. I haven't seen a young designer deliver such classic, well put together, current but lady-like looks. I'm very proud of her collection. She has truly shown growth this season.

TOP 5 RED CARPET LOOKS: OSCARS 2012

Angelina Jolie in Atelier Versace Dress

Judy Greer in a beautiful gown by fellow FIDM Alumn, Monique Lhuillier

Milla Jovovich in Elie Saab

Viola Davis in Vera Wang

Cameron Diaz in Gucci

These were my 5 favorite looks on tonights red carpet. But there were 3 other trends that stood out on tonights red carpet as well: crystal embellishments, pop colors and strapless dresses.

Which trends will we see continue off the red carpet?

SKY IS THE LIMIT: PHARRELL WILLIAMS

Tonight I was completely inspired by so many beautiful black faces on screen during the #oscars. Pharrell takes the cake. He wasn't nominated for an award. He was actually the music consultant for the awards alongside Hans Zimmer. That means, he helped select all the music we heard throughout the night! That is so inspiring.

He proves that there are no limits. As artists, musicians, designers, photographers, etc. its important for us to dream, network and know your worth. I wonder how that opportunity came to him. Was he called for the gig? Did he meet Hans Zimmer and the opportunity some how came from that? Honestly, it doesn't matter. What's important is that we follow in his foot steps.

He's always done a great job of crossing over but staying true to his audience. Pharrell also continues to show how passionate he is about his craft. I AM TOTALLY INSPIRED!

CONGRATS to Octavia Spencer & Viola Davis

Congratulations to Octavia Spencer on her 1st Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in The Help! I can only imagine how happy she is tonight! And she looked amazing in her sparkling gown by Tadashi Shoji.

Although Viola Davis did not win, congrats are still in order for her nomination. And she looked absolutely gorgeous in this green Vera Wang gown and natural hair.

ESSENCE Black Women In Hollywood Luncheon

Here are my favorite looks from the Essence 5th Annual Black Women In Hollywood Luncheon:

Naturi Naughton, Kelly Rowland, Jeanette Jenkins and Anika Noni Rose

Paula Patton in Marchesa

Kerry Washington in Cushnie et Ochs leather jacket and pencil skirt, Kate Spade clutch and Brian Atwood pumps

Nicole Ari Parker in BCBG MAX AZRIA

Viola Davis in Victoria Beckham Dress

These women looked absolutely stunning! There was a lot of white/ivory in the room surprisingly. Looks like white was the safe color but it came off very classic and well put together. I kept wondering why the looks were so conservative...But it's an Essence Luncheon. So that makes total sense. Thank God for that little sexy number Paula Patton threw in! ;) Overall, amazing looks!

PRADA FW12 WOMENSWEAR

I hate to say it, but I honestly did not like Prada's Fall Winter 2012 Collection! I am a huge fan of Muiccia Prada and I have a load of respect for her as a business woman and designer. But the MOD silhouettes and prints did not excite me at all.

On the other hand, I absolutely ADORED the platform, color blocked shoes! I can't wait to purchase the orange and grey pair. I also really enjoyed the handbags, make-up and hair. It was interesting to watch the multi-colored hair. It reminded me of the mistakes some of us made as teenagers trying to color our own tresses! haha! The hair and strong dark eyes added an element of edge and darkness to the show, which I completely enjoyed!

What are your thoughts on the show?

INSIDER INTERVIEW: SOMAYA REECE

This week has been all kinds of crazy! One of my highlights from the week was being present at Portfolio 360 Melrose as Carlton Jordan interiviewed Somaya Reese of Love & Hip Hop. I was able to chime in with a few questions (blushing). As you all know, Carlton Jordan is "the Black TMZ". So it was so amazing to see him in action!

Ok now let's get to the scoop! Somaya Somaya Somaya!! I have to be honest....I have been team Chrissy since Day 1. So maybe that's why I didn't know Somaya was from LA. (Y'all know I'm so LA! lol) But she's not just from LA, she's from like 54th & Gage LA!! #pow And she used to be a CHOLA!! Ok, I knew none of this.

Considering this is a FASHION blog, I have to start with her make over! She is beautiful! No for real! Gorgeous. She lost a few pounds, she's extremely tall, her hair was beautiful, thick and curly. She wore a printed Roberto Cavalli dress and a  nude round toe pump. I'm often considered a label whore, but I found it refreshing that she wore a comfortable but sexy pump instead of whipping out some name brand shoe just for the interview. True style is knowing how to rock a look without forcing it. She looked great.

I also loved that her new look still highlights her Latina Spicy attitude. She has a huge personality and her new look compliments that look. This particular look was styled by Derek Auguste who has also styled Danity Kane and Fantasia Barrino. Congrats on the NEW LOOK!

During season 2, Somaya spoke about being abused during her dinner with...Considering the conversation was a bit staged and she was comfortable with the guy yet, I think the story lost it's passion. During our conversation, Somaya opened up about being abused at 15 by her 1st boyfriend, her abusive dad, gang banging and being preyed on by people in the music business in the beginning of her career. Seeing the strength in her eyes as she spoke was breathe taking. This chick has really been threw hell and back! But she turned pain into joy and hard times into motivation.

She spends a lot of her time speaking to troubled youth and abused women. She has a non-profit organization that focuses on women, children and young men build their self-esteem. I really commend her for giving back. These are the things that the producers don't show.

What does Somaya have going on now? She just signed a nice deal with a small indie deal with Midi Mafia and is about to start working on her 3rd mixed tape. Check out CarltonJordan.com for the full interview.

BJ THE CHICAGO KID: NEW VIDEO RELEASE

I was recently introduced to a new Soulful artist, BJ the Chicago Kid. I actually met him before really hearing his music so I didn't know what to expect. But the dude is the TRUTH! His voice is strong, melodic and honest. I listened to "Good Luv'in" tonight and feel in love with his voice! He reminds me of D'angelo. The song is an ode to Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On" and this boy sang his ass off!
The video to "Good Luv'in was released at midnight. Check the link above to view the video for yourself.

BEHIND THE SCENES PICS:

The video is extremely sensual & sexy! Perfect for this song. What are your thoughts?

OUR 1st LADY is AMAZING!!

Our 1st Lady, Michelle Obama is the perfect representation of a black woman in America. She's beautiful, well educated, respectful, confident and has impeccable style.

I haven't blogged in 2 weeks. Not because I wasn't inspired to blog but because like most mommy moguls I just didn't have time. These pictures of Michelle Obama and the Phenomenal Woman poem by Maya Angelou were the perfect posts to bring me back!

I have great content for you though! I interviewed Somaya Reese of Love & Hip Hop, Problem of Diamond Lane Music Group and the Soulful artist BJ. I also have pics of my trip to Atlantas, MAGIC in Las Vegaa and some other treats, so stay tuned!

PHENOMENAL WOMAN-MAYA ANGELOU

Phenomenal Woman

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
I say,
It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It's the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can't touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can't see.
I say,
It's in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I'm a woman

Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed.
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It's in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

THROW BACK THURSDAY: 1980's

If you follow me on Instagram you've seen this picture. For those of you who haven't seen it, this is my mother (on the right) and my god mom on New Years Eve in the late 80's. I fucking LOVE this picture. It has been on my mind since last Thursday when I first saw the pic.

I so wish she still had that Chanel Sweater!!!! #deadasfuck right now! She does have the necklace though :) Give me some feedback. How much do you love this pic??
